FAQs - Nashville Song Critique

FAQs

If you’re asking yourself these questions, you’re in the right place. Here’s some things we’re asked a lot.

What are the “business days” in the turnaround time?

While we accept reviews and provide customer assistance 24/7, business days for song reviews are Monday through Friday. If you want your review sooner, consider our expedited review options available in the song intake interview after uploading your song.

Why do you use the words “critique” and “review” interchangeably?

A song critique and a song review are the same thing. One word sounds better in some contexts, while the other is more appropriate for others.

How can I contact you with questions, feedback, support or other issues?

The best way to reach us is via our Live Chat in the bottom right hand corner of any page.

Alternatively you can use the contact form on our Contact Us page.

Can I cancel my critique and receive a refund if I change my mind?

Once payment is received for our services, the order cannot be cancelled or modified.  No refunds are issued with the exception of any expedited turnaround that was not delivered in the set timeframe.

Is your checkout process secure?

Yes. Our checkout process involves various measures to ensure security such as encryption, compliance with industry standards like Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and tokenization of payment data.

The only payment information we store are the last 4 digits of your payment method, the payment type, and the expiration date. We do not store the name on your payment method, full card number, nor card security codes (CVV). The extended payment information is stored by our payment processor, Stripe – one of the largest payment processors.

I’m nervous about letting someone critique my work. Should I be?

Most of our staff are, or have been, artists.  Collectively we have learned that the remedy for “stage fright” is preparation.  Have your song as prepared as possible and relax!  We have been where you are.

Are you a publisher for songwriters?

No. However, we do have plans to bring publishing opportunities to Artists who achieve an 8-10 star rating based on our merit system. As a client with a highly rated song, you will be notified when that becomes available.

Can I submit a song that’s still a work-in-progress?

Yes, absolutely! We welcome submissions at any stage of completion.  Songs usually go through several revisions before they’re considered complete.  When you are ready, we will offer the assistance requested. Our feedback will contain actionable steps to guide you to your goal.  However, our Mentors will not co-write or finish the song for you.

Can I share the results of my review on social media?

Yes. You own all rights to your song and reviews. Neither NSC nor our Mentors retain any rights to the material, and you are free to publish it as you choose. However, while you own the review, our terms of sale state it may not be published, used, or distributed in any way to defame the Mentor or NSC. We reserve all right to seek legal remedies and compensation for damages if you do.

Should my songs be registered before I submit them for a critique?

There is no requirement that songs be registered. However, a songwriter that receives a higher star rating should consider registering the song to an industry specific Performing Rights Organization so that your ownership rights are registered.

Is my song demo ready?

The general rule is that the more professional your song demo is, the greater chance it has of finding success.

With a Pro or Master level song-craft review, we can absolutely tell you if your song is demo ready. If your song is not quite there but has the potential, we can also assist you in reaching that objective through feedback and examples.

Will people like my song?

Music is a very diverse form of art. Think about the number of musical genres in the world! Our goal is to guide you as a songwriter so that your song touches as many people as possible.

If we don’t think you can reach your target audience with your material or talent, we’ll be honest and direct with you about that too, and where possible, tell you why.

How can I market my song?

We recommend making it your goal to improve your song until it reaches a higher than 5-star rating.  This greatly increases the possibility of your song becoming commercially successful.

Once achieved, you may choose the commercial viability/marketing perspective with the purchase of a Pro or Master level review to explore your range of options.

Do you offer Mentor classes to work for NSC?

Not at this time.

Do you offer any additional services apart from song critiques?

Currently, our service is reviewing songs. However, we may offer additional services in the future.

Stay tuned for updates on our website.

How can I contact an artist that appeared in the “Latest 10 Rated Songs”?

Our system is completely anonymous, so for this reason you will not be able to contact the Artist via our company.

At times, with the Artist’s permission, we may publish his/her name with a song or review. However, you will need to do your own research to locate a contact method. We cannot assist you with this.

You are free to use “Shazam” or other tools to locate a published song or Artist.

If you are an industry party and interested in contacting an Artist, please use our “Contact Us” page and tell us about your interest. We may pass your information to the Artist if we can verify a bona fide opportunity which might benefit the Artist.

What sets your critique service apart from others?

Here’s a few things to start with….

1. The Artist and the Mentor remaining anonymous makes our service unique. This keeps it all about the music!

2. We review your song based on the objective (goals) you have for the song.

3. Our Mentor network offers access to the highest-level musicians and industry professionals.

4. Our services are priced where anyone can afford to get the assistance they need. Our technology automation allows us to perform review services with minimum administrative costs, and pass along the savings to you.

5. The Artist chooses the critique perspective from one of five choices (song-craft, lyrical, vocal, production, and commercial viability/marketing perspectives).

There’s simply no other service out there like it!

Do you have any credentials or experience in the music industry?

Our company was founded by individuals who have decades of experience, have won numerous awards, and have proven success in the music industry. In addition, all of our Mentors have been thoroughly vetted and approved by our Mentor Committee.

What if I’m told my song is a hit, or it receives a perfect-10?  Can NSC assist me in getting a publishing or record deal?

If your song is rated a perfect-10, and we are aware of opportunities with labels, publishers, producers, and/or other musicians, we may request permission to contact you and/or share your information with third parties.  However, it is our strict policy to avoid ‘pay to play’ practices.

Any action we take to assist in furthering your music or career is voluntary. It is based solely on merit and our desire to recognize exceptional music and talent that deserve to be heard. We never take any compensation in the event this happens.

Why was Nashville Song Critique created?

The answer is simple! Artists know getting honest and objective feedback from a qualified source can be an impossible task. NSC makes the impossible possible!

Ask us the hard questions. We won’t beat around the bush.
